If you are located outside of Canada or further than 60 km from a Canadian Best Buy location you can file a claim under our Global Coverage benefit - click here for details. The Global Coverage benefit enables you to locate a nearby repair centre to service your product. It is important that you ensure that you are up-to-date with your Geek Squad Protection payments before filing a claim. Then, please carefully follow the instructions provided in the link above so that your claim is reviewed and approved before repairs are complete. We'll not be able to reimburse repairs if your account payments are not up to date or if your repairs are completed before your claim is approved.

Your coverage will begin on the day you purchase it in-store.

Your plan expiry date depends on the length of term purchased. For example, if you purchased a three-year plan, your plan will expire exactly three years from the date it started.

All plans are only available at the initial time of product purchase (or up to 30 days after purchase) with terms depending on the type of product purchased. Once the coverage term has passed, the plan cannot be renewed.

Yes, Geek Squad Protection with Accidental Damage is transferable. If you're selling your product or giving it as a gift, you can transfer your coverage to the new owner. Just click here to find out how to contact us. When you call, provide the name of the person you're transferring the plan to. The transferee must then contact us and provide their address, email and phone number. If you're paying monthly for your plan, simply have the transferee provide us with their banking authorization information. The plan holder must have the original documentation to receive coverage.

You can file a claim right here on our website. Before you start:

  1. Ensure that you have purchased Geek Squad Protection with Accidental Damage;
  2. Make sure your product is registered. If you have not registered, click on and follow the instructions for registration; and

    How do I register my product?
    You can register right here on the website. But before you start, you'll need your original purchase receipt—it includes information you need for registering.

    • Click Register a Plan, then sign in or create a profile.
    • You will then be prompted to enter your GCID/Four Part Key and Geek Squad Protection SKU. These can be found on your purchase receipt.
    • From there, contracts matching your search will be displayed. Choose the contract you wish to register and fill out the remaining information when prompted.
    • Once you have registered your plan, we will automatically update our database with your registration details.

    We treat all registration information as confidential.

  3. Have your original purchase receipt handy - it includes information you'll need to file a claim.

How it works:

  1. Click on "File a Claim", then sign in or create a profile. From there, contracts matching your search will be displayed. Choose the contract you wish to file a claim on.
  2. Select a product from the list of registered plans on the left.
  3. Click on "File a Claim" on the right and fill out the claim information form.

You can make up to two accidental damage claims during the term of your plan. An additional accidental damage/ service fee may apply for some products. Please refer to your Terms and Conditions for more information.

You could be charged an accidental damage/service fee based on the value of your wireless device when you file a claim. A fee will be charged if your device needs to be replaced due to accidental damage. Starting your second year of coverage, you may be charged a service fee for all claims. Please refer to your Terms and Conditions for more information.

Yes, you have continuous coverage with Geek Squad Protection with Accidental Damage. Your coverage will continue on your replacement device for the remainder of your plan term or for as long as your contract is in good standing.

Depending on the covered device, the plan purchase price may be paid:

  1. In a single payment at the time of purchase; or
  2. In convenient monthly payments over the term of your plan (for wireless devices only). Your first monthly payment will be paid at the time of purchase.

Yes, if your TV, laptop, desktop, or tablet needs to be retained by Geek Squad for a repair, you may be eligible for a loaner device. Please note that a refundable deposit may be required. For TVs this deposit is equal to the price of the loaner TV to a maximum of $400 (plus tax and Environmental Handling Fee).

If you call to file a claim and your wireless device is determined to be defective, you'll be asked to choose one of the following service options:


  • Standard Exchange
    We'll send you an empty box and shipping label to ship your defective device to us for inspection. Once we receive your defective device, we'll courier you a replacement device. If you don't send us your defective device within 30 days your claim will be closed.
  • Advance Exchange
    We'll ship you a replacement device and an empty box and shipping label to send your defective device to us for inspection. At time of claim you'll be charged a refundable Advance Exchange Deposit. This deposit is $100 or the current retail value of your wireless device (whichever is greater).

Once we receive your defective device, we'll refund the deposit to your credit card. Please note that your deposit will not be refunded if: (1) we do not receive your defective product within 30 days of you receiving the replacement device or, (2) we receive your defective device but lock and/or device protection features were not removed.

Yes, accessories included in the original manufacturer's packaging are covered with Geek Squad Protection with Accidental Damage. Please note that there is a limit of 5 claims for wireless devices, including accessories.

If a repair through our service network takes longer than 20 business days to complete, we'll replace your product. The service period will begin when the product arrives at a Best Buy store or service location. For on-site repair service, the service period will begin at the time of the initial service call.

The Geek Squad Protection and Home Membership plans are designed to work together. Geek Squad Home Membership covers every tech device in the home and combines lots of services for one low monthly payment. It gets better!
